Killed Women

Killed Women

Killed Women is a campaign and network for the bereaved families of women killed by men in the UK. They work to protect women’s lives and ensure justice, both in the present and for future generations.

Killed Women works to challenge the perception that these deaths are unavoidable tragedies, advocating for a shift in how such injustices are viewed and addressed. They do this through research and campaigns, working in collaboration with others working in the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) sector. A relatively new organisation, they are already having a big impact. For instance, their campaign on how killers are sentenced in domestic violence cases led to the Government launching a consultation on murder sentencing, on which they coordinated a joint submission.

United by personal grief, they aim to be the voice for the loved ones of killed women, putting them at the heart of their campaigning. They work with families and loved ones of different backgrounds and experiences so that we have laws and policies that protects, supports and ensures justice for all women.

Connection to Esmée’s strategy

Priorities:
Long-term outcomes:
  • Gender based violence is reduced through the delivery of preventative work.

From Annabel Durling, Funding Manager - A Fairer Future, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation:

Killed Women is a campaign led by people who have experienced awful losses - beloved female relatives who have been killed by men. They want policy-makers to hear their voices and through them the voices of their loved ones and change the way that systems work so that there is justice but also, crucially, so the failures which have cost women their lives are not repeated again and again. We continue to be impressed by their reach, bravery and tenacity.

From Carole Gould, Founder, Killed Women:

This charity and network was created by the passion and drive of those who have faced unimaginable loss. Esmée Fairbairn’s support has allowed us to build KW into an effective vehicle for change - to tell the stories of bereaved families and their loved ones; to elevate those whose voices have been silenced or ignored; and to push for change to policy and systems, in the hope no other families should have to face what we have. This is just the beginning – we look forward to working with Esmée Fairbairn to build a future where justice is delivered and violence against women is eradicated.
