Anti Racist Cumbria works to tackle and end racism through action and education to create a forward-thinking and actively anti-racist Cumbria; free from prejudice and systemic inequality.
We are a young charity but with big ambition, to create the UK’s first anti-racist county.
Janett Walker, CEO & Co-Founderm, Anti Racist Cumbria
Established in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, Anti Racist Cumbria is a Black-led organisation, co-founded by three local women. They have a collaborative and inclusive approach focusing on four areas: impacting leadership in businesses, transforming education in schools, reaching communities through campaigning, and supporting a grassroots anti-racist movement.
They have already made a big impression in Cumbria. This has included presenting to more than 100 schools across the county and now working with 30 of them to complete an anti-racist audit and action plan, delivering a youth mentoring programme, creating a short youth-led animated film, held a sell-out racial justice event and worked with county leading organisations and individuals to embrace anti-racism.
