Unlocking change

Migration Exchange

Hosted by Global Dialogue, Migration Exchange is an informal network of independent funders. They aim to improve the lives of migrants, and communities in the UK by informing public debate on migration, supporting a resilient and effective migrant sector, and advocating for a fairer immigration system.

Migration Exchange works to strengthen and support a more effective migration sector. They do this by sharing learning and best practice; facilitating conversations and collaboration, as well as addressing knowledge gaps and creating opportunities to enable a more resilient and sustainable sector.

They have convened and provided briefings on a wide range of immigration issues including the White Paper on the future of the immigration system after Brexit, asylum accommodation contracts, as well as pop culture and public attitudes on migration and race.

Migration Exchange also promote the voice and leadership of those with lived experience. For instance, following an extensive scoping exercise on leadership in the sector, Migration Exchange developed a leadership programme with an explicit focus on resilience and development of leaders with a refugee or migrant background.

Priorities
Long-term outcomes
  • Legislation and support ensure that migrants' rights are protected, and reflects their needs.
  • Public understanding and discussion of migration issues is better informed, particularly by those with lived experience of the migration system.

Migration Exchange is a valuable forum to help us learn directly from a range of organisations working in migration, to have a better understanding of the policy context and to more effectively work together to tackle injustice for migrants.
