Accessibility and support applying

Bumblebee Conservation Trust

We want to make Esmée accessible and user friendly for everyone. On this page, you’ll find information about additional support available if any part of our application process is a barrier to you applying. This can include an Access Payment to pay for support to apply.

If there is something else we can do to make the information we share or our application process more accessible, let us know by email: communications@esmeefairbairn.org.uk or phone: 020 7812 3700.

Using our website

You can use the UserWay accessibility tool to customise the website. Click on the accessibility button in the top right-hand corner of any page and a menu will open allowing you to use a range of tools such as a screen reader, as well as the ability to change how content is displayed including the contrast, font, text alignment and to see the page structure.

Charts and PDFs: Please note that the UserWay screen reader is not able to read charts and PDFs. For charts, we provide an outline of the results on the page, which can be read by the screen reader. You can also use the Chrome screen reader extension, which is free to use and should work for charts and PDFs. You may also have a preferred screen reader that works too.

Downloading documents and requesting alternative formats

Our guidance for applying and sample application forms are available to download as Word documents. All our PDFs are embedded on our website using issuu, and are available to download using the download button on the PDF.

If you’d like to request any information from us in a more accessible format to you, please get in touch by email: communications@esmeefairbairn.org.uk or phone: 020 7812 3700.

Access Payments for accessibility-related support to apply

Download information about Access Payments as a Word document.

Before applying, we recommend seeing our exclusions to check your work meets our minimum eligibility criteria.

What we're offering

If you have an accessibility issue with any part of our application process and need additional support, you can ask for an Access Payment of up to £500 to support you to apply. This can be used to cover a range of support including a scribe, BSL interpreter, translator, screen reader, additional staff time, Access to Work support, or other support tailored to your needs.

Asking for this support

To ask for this support, get in touch by email or phone to let us know you are interested. We will then ask for some basic information, listed below, which you can tell us in a conversation, by filling in a form, or by email.

Email: funding@esmeefairbairn.org.uk, or phone: 020 7812 3700.

Don't know what type of support you need?

If you're neurodivergent and not sure what type of support you need to apply, we can put you in touch with a specialist organisation to discuss your needs.

Information we need to make an Access Payment

After you get in touch to let us know you are interested in an access payment, we will ask you for the following information:

  • Name of your organisation
  • Organisation’s website
  • Organisation’s phone number
  • Your first name
  • Your last name
  • Your pronouns
  • Your job title
  • Your email address (so that our confirmation emails can reach you)
  • How we should contact you
  • Further detail on how we can contact you (e.g. days/times)
  • What you require an Access Payment for
  • How much you need (maximum £500)

If approved, we aim to make the payment within a week of receiving all the relevant details. The payment will be made directly to your organisation. We will then send you your unique link to submit an Expression of Interest.

Should your application progress to the next stage and we invite a full proposal, you will be able to apply for an additional Access Payment.
