B Arts Stoke Artcity Consortium

Artcity is a five-year programme which aims to turn vacant buildings and disused spaces in Stoke into theatres, galleries, studios and cinemas.

A consortium of Stoke-on-Trent based community arts organisations believes that the creative heritage of the city represents a strong local driving force. It wishes to use the arts to help generate a confident new narrative for Stoke and to make it a destination city for artists and those interested in the arts from across the UK and abroad. The consortium, led by B Arts a participatory arts group, includes; Airspace, an artist led gallery and studio, Letting in the Light, a participatory arts and media organisation specialising in the arts and health, The Cultural Sisters, a participatory arts and crafts body and Re:Stoke an artists’ collective specialising in site specific performance work.  Other partners in the initiative include Creative Partnerships and Stoke City Council.

The Artcity programme has been developed to produce positive change for Stoke-on-Trent. In particular it will encourage more graduates from Staffordshire University to live and work in the city after their course has finished; to get more arts events happening in Stoke; and to help improve the creative profile of Stoke outside the city.

The Foundation has made a grant of £441,440 over five years including the salaries of the Project Director, Spaces and Sites Manager, as well as a contribution towards commissions and overheads.
