South West Foundation - Community Connections
At Esmée Fairbairn we had been concerned about our capacity to reach organisations at grassroots level and support local volunteering. We originally supported the South West Foundation (SWF) in 2008 for a two year small grants programme called Community Connections. The grant to SWF represented an opportunity to test a new approach - a grant to a regional funder with knowledge of local context and a network of connections that we could not realistically hope to acquire in ourselves.
We are building on this successful partnership and supporting SWF with a further grant of £99,000 over three years (2011-2014) in order to continue to contribute to the Community Connections programme.
This fund is for small (charitable) voluntary and community sector organisations operating mainly in the rural areas, market and coastal towns of the South West of England and aimed at enabling people who might otherwise have difficulty in taking part in their communities to do so more easily.
