Museums Association - Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund
Esmée Fairbairn has announced a new three year programme of support (2013-2016) for the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund. Visit the Museums Association website for more information and to make an application to the Fund.
Background to the Collections Fund
In 2011 the Foundation entered into partnership with the Museums Association (MA) to establish the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund. The Fund developed out of our Museum and Heritage Collections Strand, which we had been running for the previous three years and also from our experience of working with the MA on their Effective Collections programme.
The Fund focuses on supporting work on museum collections which is outside the scope of an organisation’s core resources. Projects that are eligible to apply include research into collections, conservation, collections review and initiatives to develop the use of collections.
The MA run the Fund on our behalf and we have a joint decision-making panel which meets twice a year. We learned from our own Museum and Heritage Collection strand that the focus on funding collections development was highly valued within the sector and working with the MA has enabled a high standard of applications to be developed, drawing on the sector's own networks and the MA's expert knowledge.
So far 33 projects have received grants in the first five rounds of the fund, with grants ranging from £20,000 to £100,000 being awarded to a range of types and sizes of museums from across the UK. A list of the projects that have already received funding can be found on the MA website.
