National Theatre Wales has only been producing work since 2010, but is already recognised for its innovative, high quality work which often takes place in site-specific settings across Wales. This grant provides support towards National Theatre Wales' programme for emerging theatre artists - WalesLab.
The programme will offer support for emerging artists at three levels, eventually enabling them to develop ideas into full productions.
This is part of a cohort of grants we have given to larger, regional or national organisations to enable them to support the development of emerging artists, emerging practice and new and more sustainable business models for the arts. These grants are awarded to key arts organisations with a reputation and/or ambition to create new work, offer opportunities to network and collaborate and generally support emerging artists over a sustained period. The grants recognise the fact that these arts organisations have the ability to connect with and support emerging artists directly and efficiently.
Similar grants have been awarded to Bristol Old Vic, The Lowry, London Symphony Orchestra, Aldeburgh Music, Sadler’s Wells and Yorkshire Dance. These grants fit our arts priorities under development of emerging talent, and our aims as work which can really unlock and enable potential.
