CEN advises, represents and helps re-integrate pupils, who are or who have been excluded from schools.

Exclusion from education is a serious concern given the devastating impact that it has on children's later lives.   CEN works with schools to promote the development of alternatives to exclusion and a large part of its work is to liaise with schools where relationships with pupils and parents have broken down. The organisation has over many years gained credibility for its part in introducing restorative justice programmes, managing moves between schools and helping to set up clusters of schools so borough-wide exclusion problems can be tackled at a strategic level.  As a specialist intervention service that plugs a gap in child welfare provision, the network’s role is to maintain lines of communication with schools and ensure that proper educational assessments are carried out. The model also has a knock on effect in improving and challenging traditional practices of schools.

This grant fits our children and young people priorities under The rights of vulnerable children and young people , and our aims as work which catalyses system change.
